#Safeguarding leavers – when should you pass on info to #FE institutes

DSL are used to transferring information when a child moves school but what happens when they go to university?  Is it the same? Looking through the  KCSiE 2016, the Data Protection Act 1998 and Information sharing Advice for practitioners providing safeguarding services to children, young people, parents and carers March 2015 its not as clear cut.

Here are some questions that should be considered:

What is the purpose for sharing the information? Who decides this?

Do you need to pass on the whole CP file?

Has the individual consented to the sharing?

If you can’t get consent, is there a legal obligation to do so?

Who are you passing on to? I believe that the equivalent role in University would be a DASM, but how would I find this information?

When do you send this info? Once the pupil starts? What happens if they take a GAP year?

Will a school know were every student goes?

What about apprenticeship schemes?

Schools obviously need to consider these questions and insert into their Safeguarding Policy, although I feel that with an update on the Data Protection Act due soon,  there could be more questions before we have resolved this issue.
